Harry Potter star, Dan Radcliffe, is donating an outgrown pair of Harry’s shoes to the Roy Castle Lung Foundation’s De-feet Lung Cancer Program. Inspired by a letter from a 14 year-old girl asking him to donate his shoes, Dan joins other celebrities in an effort to make a difference - to raise funds for the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide.

The program, set up to support lung cancer, is featuring a celebrity shoe auction to be held on September 12, 2008. Like the U.S., funding for lung cancer falls behind funding for other cancers in the U.K. Despite being the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.K., lung cancer research receives only 3.9% of all cancer funding.
Other shoes to be auctioned include those belonging to the likes of:
- Sir Elton John
- Spice Girl Melanie C
- Formula 1’s Lewis Hamilton
- Actress Terri Dwyer
- Dame Judi Dench (“M” in James Bond) – who lost her husband to lung cancer
- Boxer Ricky Hatton
- Take That’s Gary Barlow
Oh – you don’t have the bucks in this economy to fly to the U.K. and purchase celebrity shoes? The foundation challenges people to think on their feet, and help raise money in any way they can. One suggestion was to raise money by giving foot massages. If you choose to try this, make sure to email me and let me know where you will be doing this so I can be first in line. If you have any innovative or unusual ways to raise money for lung cancer, I would love to hear them.

Lynne — what a wonderful idea this is! And kudos to the young lady who thought to ask Harry Potter for his shoes.
As an organized group, those with interest in lung cancer got a late start on fund raising. We’ve heard about fund raising for other cancers for many years — breast cancer in particular — so happy to see lung cancer drawing some focus for fund raising now.

This is great — what a great idea
