Lung Cancer "Foodie Friday: - Prevention Week - Raspberry Hangop

Please forgive me, but I need to start this week’s foodie Friday with a cliché. Blame it on lazy, hazy summer days, spending time at the farmer’s market, or PMS, but I keep returning to the phrase “you are what you eat” in my head.

Thankfully, the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) gives my humidity induced summer daydreams some credibility. Our diet makes a difference, both in preventing cancer, and surviving cancer after we are diagnosed. And the AICR even goes so far as to admit that food has to taste good – be delicious – if we are going to stray from our fast food ways.

Berries are becoming known as the “broccoli of the fruits,” and are loaded with antioxidants. Diets high in fruits are associated with a lower risk of lung cancer. In women, the intake of dairy products has been linked with a lower risk of lung cancer in smokers.
