Dysphagia

Definition:

Discomfort or pain with swallowing. Dysphagia can be described as pain with swallowing, inability to swallow certain foods or a sensation of something being stuck in the throat.

With lung cancer, dysphagia can be caused by radiation therapy, chemotherapy or a tumor putting pressure on the esophagus. Certain dietary practices, such as eating soft foods and eating small and frequent meals, can minimize discomfort from dysphagia.

Examples:
Bob had to blend his food to eat it, due to dysphagia following radiation therapy.
