Definition:

A radiation oncologist is a physician who specializes in the use of radiation therapy to treat cancer.

With lung cancer, patients are usually seen by both a medical oncologist, someone who uses medications to treat cancer and coordinates cancer care, and a radiation oncologist, someone who discusses whether radiation therapy would be a helpful treatment option.

Examples:
Cindy has an appointment with her radiation oncologist this afternoon to discuss whether she should have radiation therapy for her cancer.
